Group Details For Walking (Wednesday 2) 24/25 DISC

Group Description :
The main group walks throughout the year, 5 - 7 miles with around a dozen members taking part. (We also have an 'active retirees' section of the group where those who were formerly more active can still enjoy short walks and social activities, but this is only open to 'graduates' from the main group - no direct membership!) Sometimes our walks are local, but we often venture out into the Peak District. Easy to moderate routes, invariably across country on footpaths which may be uneven and/or muddy, with stiles and inevitably with hills. Members of the group are encouraged to lead a small number of walks throughout the year, but help can be given to those who haven't planned and led walks before. We are a very sociable group, we enjoy taking time to appreciate the scenery and wildlife, and often our walks take in places of interest. We don't as a rule do pub lunches with the main group so a packed lunch is the order of the day, but a cafe at the end is always welcome for an ice cream or a cuppa and a chance to mull over our day. As we regularly walk through fields containing livestock, dogs are not permitted. You will need suitable walking equipment - walking boots, waterproofs, small rucksack etc and must be able to complete 5-7 mile walks on varied terrain.
